        Amboli is a secluded hill station located in the Sahyadri Hills of the Western Ghats in South  Maharashtra. Amboli is a hill station engulfed in peace and tranquility. Situated at an altitude of 690 meter above sea level, Having dense forests and steep mountains, Amboli hill station lies in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra state, India. The hilltop Amboli gives a fine bird's-eye view of the Konkan coast. Colonel Westrop, who was a British political agent, developed Amboli as a hill station after the opening of the Ghat Road from the coastal town of Vengurla, now in southern Maharashtra, to Belgaum.

        This is the last mountain resort before the coastal plain  of the  southern ranges of the  Sahyadri Hills.  on the coastal side, Amboli peers over the tree lined sandy ribbon of the Konkan coast on the other three sides, you are rewarded by a magnificent panorama of the sweeping valley.

         Amboli, receiving an annual rainfall of about 750 centimeters, is considered the wettest region in Maharashtra. The heavy rainfall has contributed to the growth of forest along the steep hills of Amboli. During the rainy season, the hill station is shrouded with mist. The unforgettable bird eye view of the Konkan beach atop Amboli hills attracts thousands of tourists here.

Best Viewing point:

Winter is the ideal time to visit Amboli, every year more than 50,000 tourists visit this place. when the waterfalls can be seen gushing down from the hills. The other major attractions of the place are Nagatta Falls, Hiranya Keshi, Shirgonkar, Mahadev Gad, Narayan Gad, Bauxite Mines and Sea View Point.

  • Nagatta Fall :- Nagatta Falls offer a perfect picnic place. With a breathtaking view of Nagatta Falls, this is a perfect place to escape with your family. Due to heavy monsoon, many waterfalls develop in and near Amboli. One such famous waterfall is the Nagatta Falls which are very popular with Pune and Belgaum residents. Situated 10 km from Amboli.

  • Hiranya Keshi :- The Hiranya Keshi temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Hiranya Keshi is a famous fishing ground where hours could be spent in solitude and quietness.

  • Shirgonkar Point :- The Shirgaonkar point is 2.5 kms. away from Amboli and is a favorite picnic spot for people in the rainy season. The road leading to the point is covered with dense forest and it is a very pleasant drive or walk on the road. 

  • Mahadev Gad :- Mahadevgad point located about 3 kms from the bazar is one of the primary view points in Amboli. The Madhavgad Fort built by Sawants. The fort offers sweeping views of the surrounding forest and valleys. The Madhavgad Fort though a huge fort in comparison, currently is in a state of ruins. The fort can be reached only from the northern side and extends some of the best bird’s-eye views of the Konkan coast and also the sunset from this point.

  • Narayan Gad :- Narayangad are other hill stations in the area. There is also a small temple and a red laterite cave nearby that is a base for exploration by many trekkers. 

  • Bauxite Mines :- if you want to experience something different, Bauxite Mines are a must visit for you. Just about 10 km away, this place has a pleasant scenic beauty. 

  • Sea View Point :-  Sea View Point offers the most wonderful view one has ever seen. The long stretch of the mountains and lands extending to the Konkan coast is an experience to be cherished life long. 

Best time to visit Amboli is during winter when the hills are swapped with panoramic beauty of gushing waterfalls down the hills.
